Veterans Day Presentation
On Monday, November 11, 2024, the MHS Student Council presented their yearly tribute to all veterans who served our country.
The event began with the presentation of the colors by Seniors Jaxon Bartos and Moises Manzano. The Pledge of Allegiance followed, led by Student Council Historian Angeles Juarez. Director Steven Smith led the MISD band in “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Angeles Juarez then gave the invocation, and Student Council President Emma Buehring welcomed all those in attendance, with special emphasis on the veterans in the crowd.
MHS Principal Ms. Penny Irwin gave the opening remarks, followed by Student Council Vice-President Torin Langston introducing the distinguished guest, Kevin Kelly, U.S. Army.
Mr. Kelly, who is with Moulton PD, spoke about his dreams as a child to become a soldier or a policeman, both of which he achieved. He talked about his deployment to Iraq and other countries, his experiences, and a few humorous stories concerning a turkey call he learned to perform as a child. Mr. Kelly was proud to be asked to participate and to represent veterans here in Moulton.
MHS Band and Director Steven Smith played “God Bless America,” and Student Council Members Zoey Sturm and Madison Machart introduced the local veterans.
Continuing with tradition, George Koudelka led the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders through their rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.”
Student Council Members Krystal Tortoledo and Zachary Sturm gave the tribute to local deceased veterans, followed by the playing of “Taps” by MHS 9th Grader Zurely Vazquez and 8th grader Ava Olivarez.
Student Council Member Brooke Rothbauer presented a poem, and then the Bobkat Band played a sweet rendition of “Danny Boy.” Next, Student Council Members Addisyn Greive and Colton Abbt handed out prizes to the elementary contest winners.
Superintendent Dr. Renee Fairchild delivered the closing remarks. Student Council Secretary Abigail Siegel gave the benediction and the colors were retired.
Following the presentation, the veterans were treated to a wonderful meal of fried chicken, German style potatoes, green beans, rolls, and cake.
