General Health Guidelines

If a student has a medical emergency at school or a school-related activity when the parent cannot be reached, the school will need to have written parental consent to obtain emergency medical treatment and have all pertinent health information available. Parents are asked each year to complete an emergency care consent form.Parents should keep emergency care information up-to-date at all times. Please contact the health office to update information.  

STUDENTS WILL BE SENT HOME IF:

• Their temperature is 100.0 degrees F or higher

• They are actively vomiting

• They have diarrhea

• They need to be seen by a physician

• They have a contagious illness

• The school nurse feels it is in their best interest

HELPFUL INFORMATION:

• It is asked that students be kept at home when ill, and they have a normal temperature (less than 100.0 F) for 24 hours after any illness without the use of fever-reducing medication before returning to school.

• Medications (prescription or over-the-counter) are NOT supplied by the school.  Medication should NEVER be delivered by the child.  Parents MUST bring medications to the health office and fill out a Medication Administration Form (one form for each medication). Medications MUST be in their original container. We request that you ask the pharmacist to give you two labeled prescription bottles so that you have one bottle at home and one at school.  For inhalers, please ask the pharmacist to apply the label around the inhaler instead of the box of the inhaler.  Please allow time for a pill count to be performed on all controlled medications.  A new medication form will need to be completed and signed by the doctor for any medication changes.

• Food allergies of any kind are not recognized by our cafeteria staff unless we have a Food Allergy Action Plan signed by a doctor.  The forms are available from the school nurse.
